very clean, comfortable and with accommodating staff. No problem with special food requests.
Great care taken on the details and finishes in the room- fresh fruit, water available and some toys for the kids. They can also play in the little courtyard. Bar and restaurant are also really nice. Recommended

It's an amazing apartment in a very convenient location. It's right in the middle of town, less than a 10-minute walk from the bus station. Our host was great! She made sure there was a loaf of Frisian sugar bread there, plenty of coffee, and some other snacks. The beds are comfortable and the space is pretty large with cozy seating areas. There's a pretty large kitchen in there so you can do your own cooking if you want to. I'd definitely strongly recommend this apartment for a stay in Dokkum!

Dokkum is an historical city in Friesland and features as one of the 11 cities of the Elfstedentocht. Dokkum was the turning point for the famous ice skating race. To appreciate the city history, walk the city streets and note the monuments. Stroll along the grachts and read the colourful history information posts regarding the punishment of pirates. Stop in at JB for a great meal with delicious drinks and friendly service. Boutique shopping and restaurants can be found along the grachts and character-filled streets. Free parking areas outside of the city area are an easy walk to the city. Visit the other 10 Elfstedentocht cities to appreciate their history and character.

The northernmost town in The Netherlands. Dokkum used to be an old trading town, close to the sea. It also had fortifications with cannons facing out towards the water. We followed a Guided Walking Tour one morning, which was excellent. We also took a boat trip along the waterways. That was the way to really see Dokkum! The town is fairly compact and easy to get around by foot - although not in heels, as some of the streets are cobbled. The small brewery, run by enthusiasts, has several distinguished beers, and a waterside terrace to enjoy some tastings. Wide choice of eateries in and around the town. There is also a great music store, and a book store with history. The free car park at the eastern edge of the town keeps Dokkum centre almost car-free.

Dokkum-centre give me a step back in time qua architectuur, but modern facilities with unique elements. Plenty info about the places who take you back in time. In November very quite, personal I really like to be visiting the suburb where normal life is taken place.

I grew up here and my family still lives in Dokkum, so I've got a real understanding of it. Dokkum is a really beautiful historic town, with an increasing range of nice places to stay, eat (try De Waegh!) and drink. It has wonderful architecture, nice bridges, bulwarks and waterways, a cool museum, brewery, etc. It's also located near the beautiful Waddenzee nature reserve with its wonderful islands. Easy to get around on bikes, including in the surrounding countryside and to the sea (the latter especially on an eBike) and easily accessed by public transport or car.

Mellie was great to correspond with and picked us up at the bus station on our arrival. When we got to the apartment, we were welcomed with some dutch snacks including some yummy Friesian bread for breakfast the next morning. The apartment itself is beautiful and very clean with everything that we needed. Beds were very comfortable. Everything is within walking distance, including an amazing cheese store right next door.
